There exist a host of publications that purport to tell us “what is”. We are not looking to restate the obvious. We do not intend to wallow in the mundane. We strive to instigate, invigorate, provoke. We are interested in pieces that break the rules. We are interested in writing that challenges the status quo. We are interested in intellectual escapades that leave us thinking, thinking, thinking… We want writing we will remember. Writing to digest, stir, and evolve in our thoughts. We seek a dialectic between the writer and the reader… and the interested reader who becomes… if not a writer, a deeper thinker.

Submission Info

Voices from the Garage accepts submissions all year around, in email format only, as Word attachments. We are looking for WELL-WRITTEN material only.
Word count: 1,000-10,000 words or 1-3 poems.

Categories are: Fiction (Literature, Mainstream, Sci Fi, Noir, Mystery, and Poetry), Non-Fiction, Travel, and Personal Essays. If you are interested in sending in a manuscript, but not sure if it fits, query first.

We are open to anything well-written and compelling. Currently issues are not themed. Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but please email us only one submission at a time. We will respond within 2-3 months. The author retains all rights to his/her work.

PLEASE ADHERE TO SUBMISSION GUIDELINES!!

1. In the email Subject, note your genre: Fiction (Literature, Mainstream, Noir, Sci
Fi, Mystery, Poetry), Non-Fiction, Essay, Travel, etc…)
2. In the body of the email, write a short bio and/or history of publications and
contact info.
3. Attach a Word Doc manuscript FORMATED AS FOLLOWS:
Single space your story/article/etc… AFTER single-spacing your submission,
use single spacing BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS as well (even one-line graphs)
and BETWEEN LINES OF DIALOGUE. Do not indent at the beginning of
paragraphs. This is a typical web-formatting, examples of which can be found on
our website – see any published article. (The software running our website adds
the space between paragraphs. Please do NOT add a space between
paragraphs.)
Use Times New Roman 12 point.
At the top of your manuscript please include your contact info one more time
(name/email/phone/addr)
Add word count.

Voices from the Garage willbe printing an Anthology in September, 2011 that will include the best of the past years submissions to the magazine. The editors of each section will have final say as to what is included in the „Best Of‟ online issue and the Anthology. We will pay royalties to the authors included in the Anthology based on the number of books sold.
